A bathroom contains connected decisions. A fixture or tile change can affect rough-in locations, supports, clearances, water-management assemblies, lighting, accessories, fabrication, delivery, and schedule. A dated selection log helps the owner and project team distinguish approved information from options and obsolete records.
The log supports communication. It does not replace signed agreements, approved drawings, specifications, change orders, permits, manufacturer instructions, or professional responsibilities.
Create a record for each decision
Assign a unique identifier, short title, room location, responsible person, date opened, required decision date, status, and final approval date. Link the entry to the relevant drawing, proposal, allowance, product record, sample, meeting note, or approved change.
Capture exact product information
When known, record manufacturer, model or item number, finish, quantity, dimensions, included accessories, source, price-review date, delivery assumption, and installation responsibility. Note whether the item requires other verified components or affects adjacent work. A saved cart, screenshot, or website stock message is not final procurement approval.
Connect decisions to complete assemblies
Visible fixtures and finishes are only part of the project record. Link selections to the controlling design and the responsible review for utilities, supports, substrates, water management, ventilation, clearances, access, maintenance, and warranties. If an effect has not been evaluated, mark it unresolved rather than assuming compatibility.
Reconcile allowances and changes
Link each allowance to the exact selection and accepted agreement. Record how taxes, freight, accessories, fabrication, installation, and credits are treated. If a decision changes the scope, price, or schedule, use the written change process before purchasing or proceeding.
Preserve revision history and privacy
Mark earlier choices superseded and identify the replacement. Note which drawings, orders, schedules, or field instructions require revision. Keep supplier credentials, payment information, passwords, confidential pricing, and sensitive customer records out of general comments and inside the approved protected system.
